youtube shorts are a massive opportunity, for, everyone big or small to grow very, quickly on, youtube i get asked questions every, single week about, shorts but perhaps the most popular, question i get asked is, should i create a brand new shorts, channel or upload to my current one in, this video we're going to look at, both options and see which one is going, to work best for, you now in order to know which way you, should go whether you should go with a, new channel or stick with your existing, one, there's one question you have to ask and, we'll come to that in a minute but first, we're going to look at what we know, already, so we can help with that decision now as, we're learning more and more about, shorts we're getting more information, about how we can use them to get more, subscribers, and grow your channel to grow your tribe, and community that you love, and love you too and of course grow a, channel that you can have, fun with too, now before today i would have normally, said that if you have a channel of a, certain size to create a new, shorts channel but as the data comes in, about youtube shorts and, their effect on channels i've seen, bigger channels successfully use, youtube shorts to grow even further, whereas others have actually decided to, create a brand new channel and have had, success there too so what have we, learned so far about youtube shorts, well besides youtube promoting the, absolute bejesus out of them and wanting, them to be a huge, hit the more youtube pushes something, the more it's an opportunity for you, to use that to grow your channel, currently there are over 11, million videos uploaded to youtube as, youtube shorts, and one and a half million channels, who've uploaded shorts to the platform, and of course this is rising every, single day youtube wanting to take on, tick tock head to head, means that you have this perfect, opportunity now especially if you are, creating, tick-tock content or if you're creating, instagram reels as well to put this on, your channel and take advantage of, this opportunity now one major thing, that we've learned about youtube shorts, is that the same principles of long-form, content apply, to shorts it's just a lot faster first, thing is your title is, as important as ever you have 40, characters inside a, shorts title so your title needs to be, much punchier than you would, normally on long form video just like, long, form video as well the intro or hook on, your video, is vital too instead of three to five, seconds like you do on long form content, you've about one to two seconds with, shorts everything, you do has to keep your viewers, attention other things we found is that, it can take 15 to 20 days for your, content to get on, the short shelf so again just like long, form content, being consistent is important too now, i'm running a little experiment with a, brand new, shorts channel myself so i'm taking all, this information, putting it on that channel testing some, things, finding out what works what doesn't and, as soon as i'm finished i'll be sharing, all of that valuable information with, you so you can take what does work, and throw away what doesn't so you can, grow even faster on youtube, so putting shorts on your existing, channel or creating a new one depends on, one single thing what's the expectation, of, your audience this is the question you, have to ask yourself and to help you, answers we're going to look at, two channels so here we have the legal, eagles, youtube channel so we can see here that, devin stone who is, the legal eagle on this channel has got, long form content you can see here this, one is, nearly 16 minutes this one here is 15 21, 20 minutes 12 30 minutes and then he, peppers, his youtube shorts in between his long, form, content but the most noticeable thing, here is that the views on, the shorts is pretty much the same as it, is on the long form, videos all the shorts are a couple, hundred thousand, this one's got 277 150 114, so pretty much all of these videos get a, couple hundred thousand if not, close to the million mark so this is a, great example of where youtube shorts, are, complementing his long-form content he, does have 1.79, million subscribers on there so the, audience is really liking, those shorts and those shorts are punchy, and, fast-paced just like his long-form, content, so when your shorts work the same as, your long-form content, this will really help with the algorithm, on youtube, sending you more people and growing your, youtube channel, on the other side the second channel, we're going to look at is, braille skateboarding they've got 5.43, million subscribers on, their youtube channel but instead of, adding shorts to their channel, they've decided to create a separate one, called skateboarding shorts, this was set up in october so in about, five to six months they've already grown, 48.6 000 subscribers, this channel just does shorts so you can, see here all the videos are under one, minute, and just like the main channel they, upload daily videos on here, and some of the videos alone have, amassed, millions upon millions this one here has, got nearly 10, million views this one here is my, favorite which has got, 7.6 million views all by itself, and we can see in their about section, they've already got 28.7, million views on this youtube shorts, channel, just in a couple of months so braille, skateboarding is a great example of, separating out your youtube channel, they're not affecting their main channel, with over 5 million subscribers, they're not affecting the revenue the, average audience retention anything, like that on that main channel so it's a, wise decision right there, not to put the shorts on there that, could damage the channel and their ad, sense revenue the braille skateboarding, channel subscriber has a certain, expectation, they subscribe for skateboarding tips, and tricks on how to, skateboard and braille skateboarding, aren't really going to be able to, achieve that in a 30 to 60 second video, so this is a very wise decision on, their part separating out the two, channels means that they're not, alienating their existing, 5 million plus subscribers by creating, these, short form videos that some may not like, if people want, them they subscribe to the shorts, channel and when monetization comes out, for, youtube shorts braille skateboarding, will have another, stream of revenue into their business so, what are you going to do with, shorts on your channel are you going
