first of all do you see this right there, i predicted this my next prediction has, to do with how, people will find youtube shorts my, prediction is that they will become more, separated and unique in here you might, have noticed that i have been pretty, mum about youtube shorts recently and, there's a few reasons for that the, primary is, i have been observing it very closely, collecting data points, doing my best to understand how the, playing field of youtube shorts is, playing out, and let me tell you there are some, things that you need to know about right, now so in that original predictions, video i published a few months ago i, made a few predictions several of those, have not happened yet some are still, being played out but what i do know now, is that youtube shorts, are not working the same as they did, even three months ago you see of the, many data sources and, observances that i've been collecting, over the past month or so one of them, was asking, you how you've been using youtube short, specifically are you using youtube, shorts, and why or why not and several of the, replies that i got from you, were very surprising to me you see, there's a range of audience sizes that, respond to my community posts from brand, new to very well established channels, and across the board i have seen mixed, reactions with many of the smaller, youtube channels the primary reaction, was youtube shorts actually might be, affecting my channel negatively, there are several larger channels that, have found ways to make it work, or larger channels that have started a, completely separate youtube shorts, channel but, before i get to more of my observations, on what is really happening here i, wanted to share, a video that youtube published recently, called youtube shorts, and my take on what they state in that, video think of it as an additional way, for you to create, and reach new audiences who've maybe, never seen your content before, see i like the promise here it's the way, to reach new audience that you haven't, reached yet and that, is the case however there is a big issue, with this and let me show you, short shouldn't have any major impact on, the performance of your regular youtube, videos, i beg to differ on this and no i am not, saying that i know better than youtube, they're the ones that create it right, however i see way too many evidences, including comments from you that youtube, shorts, actually do have a negative effect and, they say it shouldn't have any, major impact on your regular videos but, i have not found that to be true for a, few reasons that i'm going to outline, here in a minute and we're keeping your, subscribers in mind, so we'll only send shorts notifications, to subscribers who regularly watch, shorts content, this is interesting this is, lined up with what i have observed, because what many of you are doing is, publishing youtube shorts on your, primary long-form content, channel now that is what i still, recommend to, many many people if you're going to do, youtube shorts that you do that, and here what i think youtube is trying, to do is make it possible for a channel, to have both forms of content on their, channel and not just, short form content channel and long form, content channel however the amount of, channels that i have seen and i'm sure, you've seen also to create, a separate short form channel is huge, and i think this is why they just said, it in this video, we won't show this to your regular, viewers so we'll only send shorts, notifications to subscribers who, regularly watch shorts content, they'll only show short form content to, subscribers, who regularly watch short form content, do you, see the issue there it's handled very, poorly, what about the introduction of short, form content, to your regular viewers i have had far, too many of you, saying things like i publish shorts and, people literally don't even see them, unless they go to my channel page itself, either on desktop on mobile the reason, this is a big concern to me is because, youtube has stated hey we want them both, on the same channel it works on the same, channel however, we're literally only going to show one, form of content to one audience and the, other form of content to another, audience, what if you want the same audience to, watch both forms of content, and by the way this is backed by my own, testing when i publish youtube shorts on, this channel for example, the impressions are literally less and, the same has been true on other channels, that i manage whenever i publish a, youtube short the, literal number of impressions that that, video is shown to, is less what's the big issue there it's, that, what if i'm trying to introduce short, form content, to my current audience and they're, literally not being shown it as much, they literally don't even know that i am, publishing that on my channel, so there we have it we need some answers, here, let me give you the best take that i, have on this first of all, youtube shorts are still an extremely, effective way to find new audience, the spreadability element and the way, that they are treated on youtube means, they can be shown to a much broader, group of people, which is still a massive advantage but, what you need to know is how to, implement shorts so that they have all, the advantages without the disadvantage, of just, not being shown to people so here's what, you do first of all, treat your youtube shorts as if it's in, an independent environment whether it's, on the same channel, your current channel your primary, channel or and separate youtube shorts, channel, they are an independent environment, meaning when people find, your videos your youtube shorts it will, be within the short shelf most of the, time, and viewer behavior is they just watched, another short or maybe 500 other shorts, before you're short, therefore it needs to feel like a, complete piece of content, and also stand on its own independent, from the rest of the content on your, channel so what that means is using, youtube shorts as, a preview for an upcoming video is not a, good strategy, it also means that your youtube shorts, do need to be able to stand on their own, as a complete channel if that's the only, thing that people want to watch on your, channel, they need to be able to just watch, youtube shorts and not the rest of the, stuff on your channel, the next thing you need to do is if this, video is being helpful to you thus far i, would love it if you would boop the like, button so it can spread to more people, speaking of impressions right, thank you for doing that all right the, next point is best brought up by a, recent youtube video, from vidiq where they interviewed a, youtube creator who had some very, interesting things happening with, youtube shorts and let me show you, my shorts have actually started to, change to, about 75 browse features uh views, that is crazy i have not heard of that, happening yet but, what that does mean to me is it opens up, an unprecedented opportunity with, youtube shorts and that opportunity is, your short form content, showing up in browse features and not, just on the youtube, shorts shelf and this is huge because it, means you have the opportunity, to publish youtube shorts and have it, also show up in the other, youtube algorithm engines browse and, suggest, now in this case of the vid iq video, this inversion of traffic to his youtube, shorts, this happened after the audience was, trained on his short form content and, that, is perhaps the biggest thing you can, take away from this video i'm gonna, explain more on that here in a moment, the other thing that i am seeing with, youtube shorts is that they can, appear related to searches and, channels so that can include the topic, of the channel or if you are watching a, video from, the channel you can scroll down and see, short form content from that same, channel no matter what video you're, watching on the channel itself, those things are enormous for the, spreadability of youtube shorts where in, the past youtube shorts were more, disparate, they didn't have clear topic based, suggestions if you're watching one, it could be a totally bizarre off-topic, one the very next one you watch, or if you're watching a video and you, scroll down you see the short shelf, below your video, it could just be totally random now i am, seeing them be, more topically focused or more audience, focused which is a big opportunity, if you are currently doing youtube, shorts on your channel whether it's on, your primary channel or on a separate, youtube shorts channel, let me tell you what to do now first of, all the best option for the right, type of channel is to have youtube, shorts on your primary channel i still, stick by that, and there's a variety of reasons for, that but the main one being you're, building a primary channel and you don't, have two separate audiences, and you don't have the struggle of, getting an audience from one channel to, the other, and vice versa so members of project 24, go watch the webinar, on primary advantages, is you get both audiences in the same, place but also you get to leverage the, attention, that youtube shorts have however this is, the key thing and like i mentioned, earlier if you take nothing else away, from this video and you're going to go, with this strategy, here it is you need to train your, audience that you have, long form content and short form content, on your channel, they have to expect both now in order to, do that you need to, let them know what you are doing so in, your long form videos you need to, mention, hey by the way i am publishing youtube, shorts on my channel, in your short form videos you need to, mention hey by the way i have long form, content on my channel, you need to do that really often because, from all indicators from what i'm seeing, it's going to take a while for youtube, the algorithm to bridge that gap, so that they see oh this audience, actually likes long form content, and short form content the second way to, take this is to start a totally separate, youtube shorts channel now in the past i, was totally opposed to this because, all the benefits of youtube shorts were, growing your primary channel however i, am seeing it be a much more viable, option now the primary advantages, of starting a separate youtube shorts, channel is it is easier to have two, different audiences you don't have to do, all that work to bridge between the two, of them, and make them into a hybrid channel you, also have the advantage of the unbridled, growth potential of a just, youtube shorts channel if you just keep, making awesome youtube shorts, people are going to start binging every, single youtube short and they can binge, it very quickly, and re-watch it very quickly which are, all excellent indicators to the, algorithm, that that youtube shorts channel is a, good channel now the biggest cons of a, separate youtube shorts channel, is actually money monetization because, even with the creator fund that youtube, announced recently, they haven't implemented any other way, of monetizing yet, even with that it is really hard to make, almost any money from just youtube, shorts and that contributes to the issue, of having the separate channel, where you've got to lead people you get, the attention sure on your youtube, shorts channel but you still got to lead, them to your primary channel, and so there's more steps to get them to, your primary content which inevitably, means a lot of people are going to drop, off now i am conducting an experiment, and that is, what video is youtube showing you
